Balance Test for Senior Golfers
How's your balance?
Here's a simple test any golfer can do to test your balance. Go ahead and try it and see how you do.
We have even included the results so you can see how you compare to others.
What's the problem if you fail? Perhaps it may be obvious, but it makes you at risk for falling in your every day life. With regards to golf, it means you are likely off balance in your golf swing too and that's a major factor in why you are struggling off the tee and with your long
irons.
Here's the test.
How to Perform the Single-Leg Stance Test
- Stand near a stable surface (e.g., a wall, chair, or countertop) in case you lose your
balance.
- Start with your feet hip-width apart, with your hands by your sides or resting on your hips.
- Shift your weight to one leg (the leg you will be standing on).
- Lift the opposite leg:
- Foot height: Lift your foot just a few inches off the ground—there’s no need to lift it too high. The key is to maintain balance, not test flexibility.
- Knee position: You can slightly bend the knee of
the lifted leg if it feels more comfortable.
- Eyes: Keep your eyes open during the standard version of the test. Closing your eyes makes the test significantly harder and is used as an advanced challenge or variation.
- Hold the position for as long as
possible, aiming for up to 30 seconds.
